Healing Your Heart with Reiki
The following guided meditations can help to heal your heart on either a mental/emotional level or on a spiritual level.
Mental/Emotional
· Think of an issue that stops you from giving or getting what you desire.
· Sit in a comfortable position with your spine as straight as possible.
· Raise your hands above your head and connect to Reiki energy.
· Close your eyes and place your hands on your heart.
· Breathe naturally and begin to watch the breath.
· Visualize the issue as a particular shape or image.
· When the shape or image is clear in your mind, begin to breathe consciously. Allow the breath to flow in and out of your body in a never-ending cycle of love and life. Feel the breath traveling all the way to your brain on the inhale and all the way to your Root Chakra on the exhale.
· Begin to send Reiki to the image/shape/issue using your breath. With every exhale, feel it dissolving and flowing away.
· With your hands still over your heart, use Reiki symbols if you know them.
· When that feels full and deep, check in with the image/shape.
· If anything feels unresolved, gently place that aspect of the issue in the palms of your hands.
· Send Reiki to it with your breath.
· Then open your hands so that your palms are facing up and your little fingers are touching.
· Look at the image/shape. What does it look like now? Do not try to change it. Do not judge it.
· Feel Reiki energy coming in through your Crown Chakra and use it to send compassion to the image in your hands.
· Then repeat this sending forgiveness to the image.
· Finally, bring your palms up to your mouth and breathe the image out, releasing it to the Light.
· Place your hands down in your lap.
· Breathe softly and naturally again. Note how you feel. Ask yourself if the issue has shifted?
· If you think that it would be helpful, journal about your experience.
Spiritual
· Sit in a comfortable position with your spine as straight as possible.
· Raise your hands above your head and connect to Reiki energy.
· Close your eyes and place your hands on your heart.
· Breathe naturally and begin to watch the breath.
· As you breathe, visualize Reiki energy filling your chakras and then your auric field with light and healing.
· Then in this state of relaxation, begin to breathe consciously. Allow the breath to flow in and out of your body in a never-ending cycle of love and life. Feel the breath traveling all the way to your brain on the inhale and all the way to your Root Chakra on the exhale.
· Visualize a column of light entering through your Crown Chakra and going all the way through your body to the core of the earth.
· Visualize the column expanding, and in this light, feel your heart opening like a lotus.
· A guide or a teacher comes and stands in front of you. The guide does Reiki on your open heart, healing any wounds that have been revealed.
· Thank the guide for this healing.
· With your hands still on your heart, visualize pink (unconditional love) going to your heart and throughout your being.
· Feel your auric field expanding and filling with pink light.
· Use any Reiki symbols that seem appropriate.
· Breathe softly and naturally again. Note how you feel.
· If you think that it would be helpful, journal about your experience.
You can repeat the above meditations until you feel that the issue is resolved or until you are more spiritually connected.

Questions from Our Students
I have two friends who are seriously ill. One has cancer and the other emphysema. I’d like to offer them Reiki; but I am not sure I can handle it. How should I proceed?
If time is an issue, that’s a really valid point. It’s never good to stretch yourself too far. That kind of giving has too many strings attached, and can even lead to resentment on your part. Remember that no one is under any obligation to treat anyone else with Reiki. It must come from an open and willing heart.
On the other hand, if your hesitation comes from insecurity, think more positively about it. You obviously care about these friends, which makes you very qualified to give them Reiki. Just know that your goal is not to cure them (although it may happen). Your goal is to offer comfort, a gentle touch, deep relaxation, and relief from pain. You will be surprised at your own potential to offer peace to your friends.
I have a feeling that Reiki would benefit someone I know who has a debilitating condition. I’m not sure if he knows anything about Reiki or would even be open to it. Do you have any insight to offer me?
Trust your intuition. Explain Reiki simply and openly, and ask if he would be interested in having a treatment. You have nothing to lose by asking, and he has everything to gain. However, don’t try too hard to convince him. Honor his decision, whatever it may be.
If I want to give Reiki to a plant, should I focus on the roots or the leaves? Also, when I close the energy field around the plant, should I do it three times?
You can use Reiki on either the roots or the leaves. For the roots, just cup your hands around them before setting them into the soil with the intent that they grow into a strong and healthy plant. If the plant is already potted, cup your hands around the pot with the same intention. To Reiki the leaves, simply cup your hands around them.
We must admit that we have not done a closing when working on plants, but it is a lovely idea. Thank you for suggesting it! What does your guidance tell you about how many times to do it? One time or three?
